This installation uses sharp contrast to make a strong statement about how humans affect the water. A 4 × 5 foot piece of plywood is separated to display two different realities on it. A Beautiful image of the spotless ocean with a cheerful dolphin jumping from its crystal-clear seas appears on one side. This side of the ocean symbolizes its possibilities, its untainted beauty, and the life it supports. But a sudden shift shows the terrible result of our inaction.
The opposite side portrays a somber reality: an oil leak has tainted the once-vibrant water, which is filled with plastic garbage. With its body half opened to reveal ingested plastic, the dolphin—which was sculpted from recyclable materials—now represents this devastation and serves as a shocking reminder of the consequences of our actions. More than just a visual depiction, this installation is a call for action. It urges our viewers to acknowledge their role in protecting our oceans and encourages sustainable practices, hoping that the vibrant side of the ocean remains the dominant reality.
