Material used:
Broken Tree branch as base, dried roots, Hairs collected from Various barbers
The concept behind “Roots of Identity” draws inspiration from the metaphorical power of a tree. The installation represents a collective tree of hair, with each strand symbolizing an individual’s unique contribution to the community.
The tree’s hanging branches evoke a sense of shared roots, emphasizing the interdependence of the diverse elements that make up the community. The choice of hair as a medium adds a tactile and personal dimension to the artwork, inviting viewers to contemplate the intimate connections that weave through their lives and the lives of those around them. “Roots of Identity” seeks to transcend traditional art boundaries, creating a multi-sensory experience that sparks dialogue and introspection within the community. Through this project, we aim to celebrate the richness of diversity while fostering a deeper sense of belonging and interconnections.
