RE-TYRE
3ft X 3ft

Material used:
old tyres, jute ropes, foam cushions, nut and bolt and round glass.
Project Re-Tyre is a small idea that we plan to work on, where we use old vehicular tyres and turn them into comfortable furniture.
India itself is a very diverse and the country of many cultures. Nomadic communities in India ingeniously repurpose tyres as furniture due to their durability, versatility, and availability, example: tyres as furnitures to sit on, shells or pebbles to make jewellery, using Koila to cook meat in the ground (Khadro Pindo), etc.
Since our school is located in Rajasthan we see quite a few different nomadic tribes such as Bhils, Banjaras, Minas, etc., so we were quite used to seeing the people of these various tribes use tyres as furnitures to sit on and use. In this region Tyres are readily accessible and free, making them an ideal resource for crafting functional furniture. These communities, often living in remote areas, utilize discarded tyres to create practical seating arrangements, tables, and even playground equipment.
Our project aims at repurposing tyres into furniture, which can help us contribute to sustainability efforts by reducing waste and embracing eco-friendly practices. This innovative approach highlights the resourcefulness and creativity inherent in many communities, turning discarded items into functional and comfortable pieces for everyday use.
