Material used:
The artwork is made mostly from waste and recycled materials, such as cardboard, newspapers, old books, magazines, fabric, thread, wool, branches, and grains.

This project presents the world as a collection of windows—each opening onto a different landscape, culture and architectural tradition. From India and Morocco to Greece, Mexico, Japan and Australia, every window has its own distinctive frame and view. Together, they show that although people wake up to different surroundings, they share the same world and the same experience of finding beauty beyond their windows.

The coloured threads stretching across continents represent human interconnectedness. They cross geographical boundaries and link distant cultures, reminding us that ideas, traditions, emotions and environmental concerns cannot be confined by borders. The waves surrounding the continents further suggest movement, exchange and the continuous flow of life across the globe.

The artwork has been created largely from discarded and repurposed materials. An electronic-appliance cardboard box forms the background, while the world map is made entirely from newspaper mounted on pieces of reused cardboard. The waves are shaped from old boxes, and the connections are formed using leftover thread and wool. The window frames have been constructed from packaging cardboard and foam originally used to protect glass. Decorative patterns have been sourced from old books and magazines.

The title uses individual letters cut from magazines and newspapers. Within the windows, discarded fabric, real branches, grains and other natural or reused materials add texture and bring the landscapes to life. Pieces of waste cloth have also been incorporated into the background.

By turning everyday waste into a vibrant representation of the world, Windows to the World carries an environmental message as well as a cultural one: diversity gives each place its unique identity, interconnectedness brings humanity together, and creativity can give discarded materials an entirely new life.
